Armor Tearing is one of the gems in the GemCraft series. It is colored purple in all games.

Gemcraft Chapter 1[]

In Gemcraft Chapter 1, the purple gems have a basic function - they deal some damage, while having a chance of lowering the targets armor by 1

Gemcraft Chapter 0[]

In GemCraft Chapter 0, the purple gems in towers have the exact same function as in Chapter 1, but in traps they maintain the chance (unless you upgrade Trap Specials, as with this the % also increases) and decrease armor by 3 instead of 1.

Gemcraft Labyrinth[]

In GemCraft Labyrinth, the purple gems have changed a bit. Instead of the gems having a chance to reduce armor, now they decrease the armor by a certain value which can be a fraction.

For example if a gem has 0.7 armor reduction, the first hit would reduce armor by 0.7 which is rounded to zero, but the armor reduction value is still applied so the next hit will result in a total reduction of 1.4 which causes the monster's armor to go down by 1. The 3rd hit brings the total up to 2.1 so a 2 point reduction and so on. By 50 hits the total reduction would be 50*0.7=35.

Gemcraft Chapter 2[]

The purple gem has the same attributes as the purple gem in Gemcraft Labyrinth.

The skill tome required for creating armor tearing gems on a field that doesn't have this gem type by default can be found on field A3.

This game introduces the Beam spell which will drastically increase the amount of armor reduction, which is especially useful for giants and special entities, as well as beacons and stashes with high armor. "Shielded/Highest armor" targetting could be used on the gem to spread the effect to as many monsters as possible.

GemCraft Lost Chapter: Frostborn Wrath[]

The skill tome required for creating armor tearing gems when replaying a field that doesn't have this gem type by default can be found on field N3 by opening the Wizard Stash in Journey mode or the Iron Stash in Iron Wizard mode.

Trivia  []

  • Although armor tearing gems are often used against shadows to offset their constantly increasing armor, this is not always necessary because there are other ways to deal with them (e.g. poison, bolt, beam, or just very powerful gems).
  • Purple gems shoot faster than any other gem.
  • Very useful in early-mid game on Chasing Shadows (Specially on non-pouch players)
